Residents residing in HCC may choose to be admitted to Hospice if qualifications are met. AL Residents may choose any Hospice provider; however, the ARC must have a contract with Hospice providers for Residents in the skilled nursing units.
Residents may choose palliative care as an alternative to Hospice care. Palliative care focuses on Resident comfort and providing the best quality of life (versus extending life). A Resident may decline routine medications, may require more pain medication, and may refuse hospitalization for medical care. These options may be discussed with the HCC and AL staff when the need arises.
