Why is the Army Residence Community expanding its eligibility?

The ARC has always grown thoughtfully to meet the needs of changing generations. As military demographics have shifted, residents and leadership collaborated to ensure long-term strength and stability. Opening eligibility to all qualified adults 62 and older allows the ARC to welcome more people who value community, purpose, and peace of mind in retirement.

Does this change alter the character or values of the ARC?

Not at all. The ARC’s founding values — service, integrity, respect, and commitment — remain at the heart of everything we do. While the community is welcoming more people, its culture of friendship, mutual support, service beyond self, and purposeful living remains as strong as ever.

Who is now eligible to live at the ARC?

Any adult age 62 or older who meets the community’s standard financial qualifications is now eligible for residency. This includes both individuals and couples.

Are current military and federal residents still a major part of the community?

Yes. Residents with military or federal backgrounds remain an important and vibrant part of the ARC. The community’s history and traditions continue to be celebrated and honored.

How does this change benefit future residents?

Yes. The decision to expand eligibility was made from a position of financial strength and long-term planning. The ARC has served San Antonio for nearly four decades, employs approximately 400 local team members, and continues to invest in its campus and services.

Will expanding eligibility change the experience for current or future residents?
