Honoring Tradition, Embracing the Future.

Residency at the ARC is now open to all seniors 62+

Eligibility FAQ

Why is the Army Residence Community expanding its eligibility?

The ARC has always grown thoughtfully to meet the needs of changing generations. As military demographics have shifted, residents and leadership collaborated to ensure long-term strength and stability. Opening eligibility to all qualified adults 62 and older allows the ARC to welcome more people who value community, purpose, and peace of mind in retirement.

Not at all. The ARC’s founding values — service, integrity, respect, and commitment — remain at the heart of everything we do. While the community is welcoming more people, its culture of friendship, mutual support, service beyond self, and purposeful living remains as strong as ever.
Any adult age 62 or older who meets the community’s standard financial qualifications is now eligible for residency. This includes both individuals and couples.
Yes. Residents with military or federal backgrounds remain an important and vibrant part of the ARC. The community’s history and traditions continue to be celebrated and honored.
Welcoming a broader group of residents strengthens the ARC’s long-term vitality and ensures a stable, thriving community for decades to come. It also creates a more diverse, welcoming environment filled with people who share common values.

The ARC offers a unique blend of:

  • A 138-acre campus with resort-style amenities
  • A warm, close-knit culture rooted in service and purpose
  • More than 100 resident-led clubs and activities
  • An active, engaging lifestyle in a secure environment
  • A strong history and reputation built over nearly 40 years
  • A not-for-profit mission focused on the residents and community, not shareholders

The ARC is a true Life Plan Community, offering a full continuum of care on a single campus:

  • Independent Living
  • Assisted Living
  • Memory Care
  • Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation

This means residents can stay within the ARC — supported, known, and surrounded by friends — even as needs change.

The ARC also offers an alternative, LifeSteps program where residents can age-in-place, with personalized options, in lieu of moving through the continuum of care.

Yes. The decision to expand eligibility was made from a position of financial strength and long-term planning. The ARC has served San Antonio for nearly four decades, employs approximately 400 local team members, and continues to invest in its campus and services.
The daily experience at the ARC will remain warm, active, and community-focused. Amenities, activities, and services will continue to be guided by resident input — one of the hallmarks of ARC life. New residents simply bring more opportunities for connection, friendships, and shared interests.
